10 Steps to Starting an Amazon Private Label Business

Here’s an extended podcast version on this topic

Amazon Private label selling 2015If you’re like me you’re already tired of New Year’s resolutions.  I understand and can relate with you.

I do seem to laugh this time of the year.  Here it is a few days into the new year and I’ve already not done well with my food and exercise goals.  (Hope springs eternal)

However, I’m already well on my way to scaling up my Amazon private label business for this year.

This is possible because last year at this time I sat down and asked myself what I wanted to do with my business and how could I create a scalable passive income business.

I created my 10 Steps to Starting an Amazon Private Label Business plan and more importantly took action and actually far exceeded my goals as an Amazon Private Label seller last year.

As I’m doing my planning for this year, I already have my next 6 products scheduled to be released.

That’s when I started thinking about so many of the people I come across who are talented and capable.

If this Amazon stuff is so possible and relatively easy compared to trading time for money as an employee or other ways to make money online, why do more of these talented, capable people not sell on Amazon?

I wish I knew.

The how to information is available.
It’s not expensive to get started.

You can can get started in less than a month.
If you have a job, you can keep it until you are ready to leave.
You can scale the business up to whatever level you would like.
You build an asset that you can one day sell.

The list goes on and on.

So is it just a matter of planning?  Having the right steps to follow?  Or is it simple human anxiety?

Probably some of each.

take controlWhat if you planned to be a successful Amazon Private label seller this year and actually took action?

Next January would you be like me and other Amazon sellers who are coming off of a very financially lucrative December holiday season or would you still be saying wouda, coulda, shouda if you did nothing?

So I decided to put together a very, very basic plan to help you get started.

Here goes…10 Steps to Starting an Amazon Private Label Business

  1. Decide on a market
  2. Decide on a product
  3. Find a supplier
  4. Private label and purchase the product
  5. List it on Amazon
  6. Seek out reviews
  7. Spend a little time managing your business
  8. Rinse, wash, repeat with new products to scale up your business
  9. Enjoy your new passive income lifestyle
  10. Kick yourself for not starting sooner….

OK, overly simplistic, but not really.  These are very doable steps.  Will it all fall into your lap.  Of course not?  Will it take some time and effort?  Sure.  What in life doesn’t?

If you’re serious about getting started, I have two ways to help you.

I have some free training available at http://MarkScottAdams.com/free-training

If you’re ready to get going sooner, I have my paid training available at:

    Hi Mark,

Nice article! I have been researching starting a private label Amazon business for a bit now, and feel that I understand the steps well. As others have mentioned, I am simply caught up on the registering a business, creating an LLC, tax information for the business, as I have no experience with any of those things.

Are you saying that I can just start selling now and start building the brand and handle all of those aspects later?

    Still a bit confused here,

    Thanks!

If you keep waiting until you understand everything, you’ll be dead before you launch. Just launch your products and the rest will work its way out

Ok thank you so much. So I have to register a business name in my state in order to buy on Alibaba?

No you do not have to register a business name to use alibaba, just use the business name you will be using with amazon

    Hello Mark,

Am I able to buy products on Alibaba and sell them without having a registered business/company name? Do I have to come up with a name for my product and legalize it in order to private label it?

    Thank you

Hi Crystal. If you mean do you have to be a corporation???…you can sell as a sole proprietor. You can use any name you want for your company as long as its not being used somewhere else…

    Hello Mark,

Should I trademark my name first?

    • Mark Adams

      Reply Reply June 11, 2015

You can trademark you name at any time. Its easy to get distracted with too many things in the beginning that slow you down. Get you product listed first and then if you want to trademark your brand, do it then. Good luck.

Hey Mark – I’ve enjoyed and learned a lot from your video and think the info you’ve provided on the site are great…so thank you for all of that! One thing I don’t see any mention of is setting up a “business” legally (i.e. LLC). Do you think it is necessary or should I just jump right in?? Again, thanks for you help.

Hi Rick. Thank you for your comments. You can change your business (corporate) structure at any time.

I believe its best to just get started. Although I think its important, I think forming a corp. in the beginning will slow you down and keep you from focusing on building your business.

However, you should always do only what “YOU’RE” comfortable doing. Good luck
